PDX Meetpoint Meetup 2026

Hello Faceting Friends, Meetpoint Meetup PDX is happening!

At our first guild meeting of 2026, we discussed what we want our guild to do this year. We talked about having presentations tailored to helping members become better faceters. Presentations on the history of the guild and notable members to keep their memory and legends alive, and to connect the new and the old. We also talked about having events, like a symposium and a Meetpoint Meetup.

Well, we’ve been getting what we’ve asked for. We’ve had some great presentations so far this year, learning things that we can utilize when faceting, and plannind our first official Meetpoint Meetup in PDX is in the works

Some Basics:

• Who: Faceters near and far!
• What: PDX Meetpoint Meetup 2026, a live, synchronized faceting event.
• Where: McMenamin’s Kennedy School – Portland, Oregon
• When: October 17-18, 2026
• Why: The purpose is to facet a stone together, tier by tier, with plenty of time for learning, exchanging skills and passing on knowledge, enjoying community and forming connections.

• We will be following Michael Holmes’ suggested guide to creating a MPMU from his writeup in the USFG Newsletter (link below). If you haven’t read this article yet, I suggest you do: https://usfacetersguild.org/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/March-2025-v2.pdf
• We will be allowing a total of 20 people.
• Each attendee must have faceted 10 stones and be proficient in using diamond polishes.
• No outside food or drink in the facility (besides water).
• Each attendee must provide their own faceting equipment.
• If you’ve never been to or heard of the McMenamins Kennedy School, check it out online. It’s a hotel made out of an old school, with bars, restaurants, soaking pool, movie theater and space for out-of-towners to stay.
• Rough for cutting will be provided, as will catered breakfast and lunch by McMinamins, and the cost will be kept low for the attendees by a generous donation made by the CWFG. We are also hoping to get some more donations as well.
• If you’re particular about your food, there will be time for you to go get food at one of the many great food places in the area.

Hopefully this will be the first of many more MPMU’s in PDX’s future. Big shout out to us, the CWFG, for getting this going and helping move faceting forward!
